ANTIGUA

Antigua stamps available at Io Collezionista. Antigua is an island of 280 km² belonging to the Lesser Antilles archipelago, in the Caribbean Sea. The local economy rests largely on tourism, luxury and otherwise. One of the best known places on the island is English Harbour, near which lies Nelson's Dockyard National Park, an area of historical and natural interest used in the 18th century by the Royal Navy as a shipyard and a safe port for its vessels: the particular shape of the bay offered, and still offers, excellent shelter from violent tropical storms. The shipyard was also commanded by the famous Admiral Horatio Nelson, who stayed there between 1784 and 1787.
