Canada
Canada stamps available online at Io Collezionista. At 9 897 170 km², Canada is the second largest state in the world after Russia. The name comes from the Iroquois word kanata, used by the native peoples to refer to the future city of Quebec, then Stadacona: in 1535 the French explorer Jacques Cartier drew on kanata to coin the word Canada for the territory around Stadacona. The long period of British rule, from 1761 to 1931, the year of independence, although full sovereignty arrived only in 1982 with the promulgation of the new Constitution, shows clearly in many of the stamps in this category, for instance those dedicated to Queen Victoria, on the throne from 1837 to 1901, and to Edward VII, king from 1901 to 1910.
