ITALY 1948

Italy 1948 stamps, available online at Io Collezionista. On 1 January 1948 the Constitution of the Italian Republic formally came into force, having been approved and promulgated in December 1947. That document, the principal source of law in the State, is made up of 139 articles, although articles 115, 124, 128, 129 and 130 were later repealed, grouped in turn into three parts: fundamental principles (articles 1 to 12), rights and duties of citizens (13 to 54), and the organization of the Republic (55 to 139). There is also a fourth part given over to transitional and final provisions, eighteen in all, intended to manage the shift of certain matters from the monarchical order to the republican one.
