ITALY 1951
Italy 1951 stamps, for sale at Io Collezionista. In October 1951 the military tribunal of Bologna sentenced the German SS officer Walter Reder to life imprisonment for the Marzabotto massacre. The event takes its name from the worst affected municipality, though it extended to neighboring areas, and took place between the end of September and the end of October 1944. Reder was placed at the head of the contingent that carried out the scorched earth strategy, marked by the indiscriminate killing of civilians, who were undoubtedly a source of support and supply for partisan troops in the area. 1830 people lost their lives in the massacre. The main Stamps category holds other subcategories devoted to particular historical periods, such as Italian States stamps and Italian Colonies stamps.
