ITALY 1959

Italian Republic stamps from 1959, available worldwide at Io Collezionista. The book Una Vita Violenta by Pier Paolo Pasolini appeared in November 1959, the year these Italian Republic stamps were also issued. Because of the social themes it dealt with, the squalor of the Roman outskirts, and its politics, the novel had to undergo revisions before going to press. In 1962 the film adaptation reached cinemas as well. The novel had come second for the 1959 Strega Prize, behind Il Gattopardo.
