ITALY 1972

Italian Republic stamps from 1972, for sale at Io Collezionista. In 1972, the year to which the Italian Republic stamps in this category refer, law no. 733 was passed, better known as the Valpreda law, which limited the precautionary measures available for crimes of extreme gravity such as mass murder. Pietro Valpreda had initially been named as one of the organisers of the Piazza Fontana bombing of 1969, a terrorist attack on the Banca Nazionale dell'Agricoltura in Milan in which 17 people lost their lives and 88 were injured. Although acquitted of the graver charge, he still had to serve 4 years for criminal conspiracy. Among the most interesting Italian Republic stamps of 1972 is a complete set of 2 stamps from 1972 dedicated to Giovanni Verga. The main Stamps category also offers other subcategories devoted to specific historical periods, such as Italian States Stamps and Italian Colonies Stamps.
