On 1 January 1977, the year these Italian Republic stamps were issued, Carosello was broadcast for the last time on the Programma Nazionale, today Rai 1. The hugely popular show had accompanied the evenings of Italian families for almost twenty years, going out from 20.50 to 21.00 and later from 20.30 to 20.40, alternating comic sketches and musical interludes with advertising messages. The end of Carosello marked the shift to a more modern way of handling advertising.
