ITALY 1992

Italy 1992 stamps, for sale at Io Collezionista. 1992, the year these Italian Republic stamps were issued, is probably one of the darkest periods in the fight against the Mafia. The criminal organizations raised the stakes, first killing Giovanni Falcone on 25 May in the Capaci bombing, with an explosion powerful enough to destroy a stretch of the A29 motorway, and then Paolo Borsellino on 19 July in the via D'Amelio bombing, with a car full of explosive parked near the home of the magistrate's mother. Among the more interesting stamps in this subcategory is a set of 6 souvenir sheets from 1992 dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America. The main Stamps category also holds other subcategories devoted to specific historical periods, such as Italian States stamps and Italian Colonies stamps.
