ITALY 2001

Italy 2001 stamps, for sale at Io Collezionista. On 31 March 2001, the year these Italian Republic stamps refer to, the bistecca alla fiorentina was formally banned. This was a precautionary measure taken by the Ministry of Health itself, following the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) epidemic that affected Europe at the time. The media gave the story great prominence, and a striking name was even coined for the cattle disease: mad cow disease. The fiorentina would return to sale only in October 2005. Among the more interesting Italy 2001 stamps is a lot of stamps of 800 Lire from 2001 dedicated to the centenary of the first stamps.
