22/7/1931 AUSTRIA - Zeppelin flight of the Lz 127, voyage to the North Pole. Postcard franked with Austrian Airmail stamps (Cat. Unificato A16 - A23 x4). Postmarks "Wien 1", Friedrichshafen and Leningrad. (The voyage was made to carry out exploration and scientific research between the Franz Josef archipelago and the islands of northern Siberia. It was organised by the Aeroarctic society, and among those aboard were Professor Samoilovic and the explorer Ellsworth, Nobile's companion on the Norge. The departure from Friedrichshafen took place on 24 July, followed by overflights of Nuremberg, Leipzig, Berlin, the island of Gotland and Helsinki, and a landing at Leningrad amid the keenest interest of the population. 7/6/1931 NETHERLANDS - Zeppelin flight of the Lz 127, voyage to Magdeburg. Card franked with Dutch stamps. Postmarks "'s-Gravenhage" (Netherlands) plus "Friedrichshafen (Bodensee)". (Between the North Sea voyages and the Liechtenstein flight of 1931, a propaganda flight was arranged to Magdeburg on the river Elbe, which was given considerable tourist prominence.) 12/10/1930 GERMANY - Zeppelin flight of the Lz 127, voyage to Switzerland. Superb picture postcard franked with a 1 mark Airmail "views" stamp (Yvert 32). Leipzig postmark plus the handstamp "Basel-Flugplatz Zeppelinpost". (According to the flight plan, departure from Friedrichshafen was at 08.07 on 12 October 1930 and the landing at Bern at 13.50; this flight to Bern and Basel closed the series of short voyages within Switzerland.) 8/9/1930 SWITZERLAND - Zeppelin flight of the airship Lz 127 to Moscow. Cover with a Swiss Airmail franking (Cat. Unificato A4 + A5 x2 + A15), flown from Friedrichshafen under the command of Dr Hugo Eckener with a crew of 42 and 23 passengers. On the route flown, the airship reached Moscow at 7.50 on the 10th and landed later, with the help of a military detachment, at 12.05, after a flight of 2372 km. 26/5/1933 - KINGDOM OF ITALY - Italian Cruise of the airship LZ 127 (29/30 May 1933). Card franked with 3 Lire Airmail (Cat. Unificato A/45) plus 20 Cent. Imperiale (247) - Postmarks Milano Corrisp., Napoli Posta Aerea, Roma Posta Aerea, plus the Zeppelin postmark. (At 1,04 on 29 May the airship left Friedrichshafen on the cruise bound for Rome and at 16,30 the same day landed at Ciampino; at 19,45 it took on many mail sacks and set off for Naples, where the postal drop was planned, though because darkness had fallen the drop was made over Nettuno.) 26/5/1933 SAN MARINO - Lz 127 Crociera Italiana (Italian Cruise), 29 to 30 May 1933. Aerogramme franked with the 80 cent. Airmail (Cat. Unificato A2) and the 3 Lire surcharge on 50 cent. orange (Cat. Unificato A11), sent to Switzerland. (All aerogrammes and letters sent from San Marino for the Zeppelin cruise, whether addressed to Italy or abroad, carried the special blue or violet handstamp, and the San Marino post used a green octagonal postmark applied at Citta, Borgo and Serravalle.)
