Anglo-American Occupation
Anglo-American Occupation Issues Stamps, available worldwide at Io Collezionista. In July 1943 what was code named Operation Husky opened the Allied military campaign in Italy. The reconquest of the peninsula began in Sicily and was later described as one of the greatest amphibious operations of the Second World War. The particular shape of the Italian terrain and the strategic positioning of the German troops slowed the advance of the Allied contingents considerably: they took almost a year to liberate Rome and fully two years to break through the notorious Gotenstellung, the Gothic Line.
