AFGHANISTAN

Afghanistan stamps for sale at Io Collezionista. Afghanistan has been one of the leading countries in international geopolitical history over the last forty years: first with the invasion by the Red Army in 1979 and the birth of the legend of the mujahideen engaged in an unequal struggle against the Soviet giant, though secretly supported by the United States; then with the arrival of the Taliban regime, between 1996 and 2001, and a new invasion of the country, this time by those same former allies from the United States, willed by President Bush in response to the attack on the Twin Towers on 11 September 2001, Osama Bin Laden and his organisation Al-Qaeda having been based in Afghanistan itself. Nearly two decades on, the country had still not found stability and many NATO contingents remained deployed in the area.
