Burundi

Burundi stamps available online at Io Collezionista. The country is sadly known as the scene of one of the bloodiest genocides in Africa, with at least half a million victims estimated, carried out in 1972 against the Bahutu ethnic group; the pretext was an alleged coup denounced by the Batutsi. From the country's independence in 1962 to the present day the tensions between the various ethnic groups have remained unresolved and have led to many coups, at least five. From a strictly philatelic point of view, the stamps issued in Burundi command very high prices on the market because they were distributed through non commercial channels and in limited quantities, again on account of the almost permanent political instability.
