French Colonies

French Colonies Stamps, available online at Io Collezionista. France is one of the European states that over the centuries built a genuine colonial empire (17th to 20th century), extending its influence to four continents (Africa, Asia, North America and Oceania) and reaching, at its height, an area of about 13,018,575 km², metropolitan France included. This category holds various stamps dedicated to Port Said (Egypt), a city founded in 1859 by Muhammad Sa'id Pasha, whose name was in fact settled by an international committee (Great Britain, the Russian Empire, Austria, France and the Kingdom of Sardinia) involved in the building of the strategic Suez Canal.
