Niger

Niger stamps for sale at Io Collezionista. Niger is among the lowest ranked states in the world for the human development index (HDI), a macroeconomic indicator that seeks, alongside GDP, to gauge quality of life. On the 2018 figures Niger sits at the bottom of the table, 189th out of 189. What holds back the growth of the nation, independent from France since 1958, are complex problems such as desertification, inadequate farming techniques, extreme poverty and low levels of schooling, the absence of infrastructure and overpopulation. More recently Niger has been mentioned repeatedly in connection with the migration across the Mediterranean that followed the fall of the Gaddafi regime in 2011: the country is said to be one of the main staging points on the journey of migrants bound for Europe.
