Palestine
Palestine stamps for sale at Io Collezionista. For more than a century Palestine has been a flashpoint of instability in the Middle East, since reconciliation between Israel and the State of Palestine appears complex and hard to reach. The region, which remained under Ottoman control until the First World War, was later assigned to the British Empire (1922-1948), which ended its mandate shortly after the diplomatic intervention of the UN and the birth of Israel (1948) and of the future State of Palestine, which proclaimed itself independent in 1988 and is currently recognised by 137 countries, though Italy is not among them. Among the first to use the name Palestine was the Greek historian Herodotus, who described it as a district of Syria.
