Paraguay

Paraguay stamps, available worldwide at Io Collezionista. As with other countries of Central and South America, Paraguay too was reached by the conquistadors during the 16th century. The area was discovered by explorers who set out from the Rio de la Plata, the estuary formed by the rivers Uruguay and Parana, and worked their way up to the Paraguay river, which flows into the Parana. The future capital Asuncion was founded in 1537 by Juan de Salazar and Gonzalo de Mendoza. The nation is also known for producing 100% of its electricity from hydropower and for being the world's leading energy exporter: of the roughly 63 billion kilowatt hours produced each year, Paraguay uses only 15.
